Important Orientation Message
This is a modified Psyc/Soc 205 Orientation page message due to the Covid-19 outbreak
General Course Information
This course is predominantly an asynchronous course meaning that all lectures and assignments are available to the students on the first day of class.
Students can work at their own pace, as long as assignments are submitted by the posted deadlines.
There are three examinations that
are given at a specific time and specific day via Canvas. No make-up or early
exams will be allowed.
A Note to All Interested Students
Dear registered, waitlisted, and
interested Psyc/Soc 205: Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences, Winter
Intersession students,
All 205 sections will begin on the
first day of each semester. On that start date the course website and
orientation videos will be made available to all registered and interested
students. The following is what you need to do to stay registered or get into
the course:
REGISTERED STUDENTS: On the first day of the
semester the course will be made available to you via the published Canvas
course page. ALL registered students MUST log in to canvas, access the page,
review the orientation videos, take the Canvas version of the orientation quiz,
and send me your secret code (explained in the orientation videos).
IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT THE QUIZ AND SEND
YOUR SECRET CODE ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS, YOU WILL BE DROPPED FROM THE COURSE
AND YOUR SPOT GIVEN TO ONE OF THE CRASHERS TRYING TO GET IN.
WAITLISTED AND INTERESTED STUDENTS: If you are on the waitlist or just interested in joining the
class, send me an email on the first day of the semester expressing your
interest in joining the class. I will respond to your email by sending you the
link to the course homepage. ALL waitlisted and interested students MUST access
the webpage, review the orientation videos, take the Crasher version of the
orientation quiz, and send me your secret code (explained in the orientation
videos).
IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT THE QUIZ ANSWERS
AND SEND YOUR SECRET CODE ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO
JOIN THE CLASS.
Crashers will be taken the following
day based on the following criteria:
1. how many registered students do not
show up on the first day of class,
2. The order of the waitlist (and
email contact with the instructor on the first day of class), and
3. for non-waitlisted students, by
order of email contact with the instructor on the first day of class.
Please know this is a high demand
course. I will take as many crashers that I can but may not be able to add
everyone.
I cannot answer any additional
questions until the first day of class, but here are a few answers to some
popular questions.
1. Although there is a suggested book
:
Vernoy and Kyle, Behavioral
Statistics in Action,
4th, 5th, or 6th Edition, Boston: McGraw Hill, 2008-2015
There is no book requirement for the
course. All content is embedded in the lectures.
2. The three exams will be given at three specific dates and times that you MUST be available for. Each exam will be given typically from 6-8 pm via Canvas on three Friday evenings.
Absolutely NO MAKE UP OR EARLY EXAMS
WILL BE ALLOWED.
3. If you are having trouble enrolling
in the course, that is something I cannot help you with. You need to contact
enrollment services (760-744-1150,
ext 2164). They are very busy this time of
year but if you wait long enough you should get a live person to help you.
4. If you are not wait-listed but
still want to crash the course you must have confirmed to the school that you
have met the prerequisite for the course (this is another thing that I cannot
help you with, sorry).
All other questions will be answered
in the orientation video on the start date for the course.
Thank you for your interest.
