This Week's Work:  Monday, April 20


This is week 13 of the spring semester.  You should submit your weekly update by the end of the day today. 

Complete the following reading this week:

At least two outside article on technology related to the topic you are considering writing about.

Complete the following writing this week:

1.  Your trial thesis statement for essay 4 and a short summary of what you hope to say in the essay.  (You may prepare more than one if you want feedback on which is the best.)

3.  A correct works cited entry and summary or abstract on at least two articles that you might use as evidence in your fourth essay.  Post your thesis statement and the two article summaries in your group Discussion Board in Blackboard by the end of the day on Tuesday.

4.  Reviews of the thesis statements and evidence from your editorial group.  Comment on and suggest improvements for the thesis statement and review the evidence applying the Tests of Evidence.  You may reply to the writer either by e-mail (if you would like your response to be more private) or on the Discussion Board.  If you send the writer e-mail, send me a copy too.  Please complete your reviews by Wednesday.

5.  Your working draft (WD) of essay 4 is due next Monday.  Review the format and requirements for working drafts.  Upload it directly to the Pluto server at Palomar by ftp.  See the FTP Instructions for how to do this.  If you have any problems with ftp, let me know about them and get them resolved before this working draft is due.

1.  Two essays for peer review.

2.  Claudia Wallis, "The Multitasking Generation," Time, March 27, 2006, pp. 48-55. 

3.  Robert Kubey and Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi, "Television Addiction Is No Mere Metaphor," Scientific American Special Edition, Vol. 14, Issue 1, pp. 48-55. 

You should have completed the following writing last week:

1.  Your revised essay 3.

2.  Your essay self-evaluation

3.  Your Safe Assign originality report.

4.  Your peer reviews for essay 3

5.  Discussion Board postings on Wallis and Kubey and Csikszentmihalyi.
