GCMW 206 - Motion Graphics Production and Compositing grading requirements:

Project 1 -Color Correction (100 pts. possible)
Students will color grade (correct) two still scenes. The first scene needs to incorporate various buildings taken from different locations that are color corrected such that they look like the finished result had all of them in it at the start. The second scene utilizes people from various locations composited together and color corrected to give the appearance that they were all originally in the same locations together. Refer to top of p. 105 and 113 and incorporate the following somewhere in either or both scenes.:

  • Use Grade Node to (p. 113):
  • Set Black and White Points to fix dynamic range of image: 10 pts.
  • Adjust Lift: 10 pts.
  • Gain: 10 pts.
  • Multiply: 10 pts.
  • Offset: 10 pts.
  • Gamma: 10 pts

Use Curve Tool to match Black and White Points and Use Expression Links. (p. 118-122): 10 pts.
Use Color Corect Node (p.125): 10 pts.
Perform a Secondary Color Corection by using a mask to isolate the correction to a given area (p. 131-133): 10 pts.

Final Rendered Tiffs: 10 pts.

Normal Flow: Fix full dynamic range, Match Black and White Points of Forground to Background. Then match Midtones using Multiply, Offset, and Gamma while probably viewing the Luminance. Match Hue and finally Saturation.

Project 2 - ... Tracking/Roto/Rig/Clean Plate Project (100 pts. possible)
Students will shoot video to use in a compositing project that includes the following:

  • Use Tracker node to perform a Match Move (p. 137-142): 20 pts.
  • Use Corner Pin to replace a sign/image (143-154): 20 pts.
  • Use Motion Blur (154-157): 10 pts.
  • Painting for Wire/Rig removal (174-178): 20 pts.
  • Animated Roto mask (178-190): 20 pts.
  • Create a Clean Plate: 10 pts.

Project 3 -... Project (100 pts. possible)
Students will shoot on various green or blue screen backgrounds in order to practice using the keying nodes to generate accurate high quality keys.

  • Use Keylight to create holdout and garbage mattes: 20 pts.
  • Use Primatte to generate an accurate key: 20 pts.
  • Use Ultimatte to generate an accurate key: 20 pts.
  • Use IBK with a clean plate, and without a clean plate: 20 pts.
  • Create roto shapes and use erodes to generate garbage and holdout mattes: 20 pts.

Project 4 -Final ... Project (200 pts. possible)
Students will put together a 2.5D scene (p. 426-432) incorporating the following:

Animated Camera and Animated Transformations (p. 457-436, 477-478): 20 pts.
Project3D (p. 478-481): 20 pts.
2D Images on Cards with Deformations (p. 432-436): 20 pts.
Modified 3D Geometry (cubes, cylinders, and/or spheres) (p. 436-43, 463-470): 20 pts.
OBJ or FBX geometry with Texture and Shading (p. 438-440, 443-447, 450-455, 484-490): 20 pts.
Projected Textures with UVProject (p. 447-449): 20 pts.
At least 3 Lights (p. 470-477): 20 pts.
DisplaceGeo (p. 466-467): 20 pts.
Refine Scanline Render parameters to improve render quality and apply Motion Blur (p. 481-483): 20 pts.

Final Rendered .mov: 20 pts.
